An Ad for a Small Business With No Photographer, No Studio and No Budget

A quote for a promo video starts in the thousands and takes weeks. Here is how to produce one that looks professional yourself, in a single evening, and what you do still have to invest so it does not look cheap.

A small business owner who wants a promo video always hits the same wall. The quote starts in the thousands, the timeline is weeks, and that is before anyone mentions a shoot day, a script, talent and an edit. So most businesses simply give up and post a photo of the product with text on top.

That is no longer necessary. But let us be honest about what is still required: you do not need a photographer, and you do need to decide what you want to say. The tool solves the production, not the thinking.

First, What the Video Actually Has to Do

This is the mistake that kills more videos than any technical problem. Businesses ask for "a brand video" without saying what they want to happen after it. A video trying to tell the whole story of the business persuades nobody to do anything.

  • A product video: shows one product and what it does. The goal is that someone understands what it is within three seconds
  • A before and after: shows the problem and then the result. Most persuasive when the result is visual
  • A mood video: sells a feeling, not information. Suits restaurants, salons, studios
  • An explainer: breaks a process into steps. Suits a service that is hard to explain in one sentence

Worth knowing: Pick one. A fifteen-second video that does one thing well beats a one-minute video that does four things adequately, and it costs a quarter as much.

The One Thing You Must Not Fake: The Product Itself

This is where businesses fail most. They ask AI to generate their product from scratch and get something resembling it but not it. A different label, a slightly different shape, a color that does not exist in the catalogue. A customer who sees that and then arrives at the store feels misled, which is worse than not advertising at all.

The right approach: photograph the real product on your phone, on a clean background, in good light. Upload that image, and the AI moves it, adds an environment, cinematic lighting and camera movement. The product stays your product, and everything else is built around it.

And What About People in the Video

If there is a real person in the video, the owner or a customer, you need a clean reference photo of them and it has to hold across every shot. Without that the face changes between clips and it shows immediately. If there is no specific person it is easier: a generic figure works fine and nobody expects to recognize them.

Worth knowing: One caution, legal and human: do not generate a figure that looks like a real customer and do not put a testimonial in their mouth. An invented testimonial signed with a name is not a marketing tactic, it is a problem. If you have a happy customer, ask them to record one sentence on their phone.

One Evening, in Practice

  • 20 minutes: photograph the product on your phone from three angles, on a clean background near a window
  • 15 minutes: write four to six shots, one line each. What is visible, what happens, how the camera moves
  • 1 hour: generate each shot at low resolution, two versions each, pick the good ones
  • 20 minutes: regenerate only the chosen shots at full quality
  • 30 minutes: assemble the edit, add music, and add Hebrew captions on a separate layer

Notice the low-resolution stage. It is not a shortcut, it is what stops the budget disappearing into attempts you throw away anyway. You generate at full quality only what you have already decided to use.

What Still Will Not Work

It is fair to say this too. Hebrew text inside the video comes out reversed or as gibberish, so captions go in the edit. Hands performing a precise action, like assembling something small, still come out distorted sometimes. And if your product requires showing an exact technical detail, sometimes filming it is simply better.

The difference between a video that looks cheap and one that looks expensive is almost never the budget. It is that the first tried to say five things and the second chose one.
